Canada’s Best New Restaurants 2006

Our mission was scrawled at the top of the intricate itinerary that we consulted each of our 30 days on the road this past June: “enRoute’s best new restaurants advance the Canadian culinary identity; they are places where the overall dining experience will have a lasting and significant impact on our restaurant culture.”

A tall order, that. Almost as tall as the orders – for chef’s degustations and tapas spreads, giant seafood towers and charcuterie platters – that we placed at new restaurants from coast to coast. Our search for a local harvest of ingredients, pioneering preparations and the most delightful service and ambience led us to some culinary hot spots for the first time (Saint John and Prince George) as well as old feasting grounds (Montreal, make way for Vancouver!). Other places had so totally reinvented their dining landscape since last year that we triple-checked the itinerary (a dozen new restaurants in Calgary?).

Five years, 39 towns and cities, 37 distinguished foodie panelists, 204 meals… Join us for a celebratory anniversary dinner, won’t you?
