My nosh: Cuban Sandwich
By David McGimpsey

Everything’s in Miami Beach: the white sands, the swanky Art Deco hotels, the world’s most inexpensive variety of Scarface souvenirs and one of the greatest sandwiches you’ll ever find. True, a good Cuban sandwich can be found in most any city, but it’s never better than it is in Miami – the caliente home of a large and vibrant Cuban community.
The Cubano sandwich is layers of ham, pork and Swiss cheese, with grace notes of mustard, mayo and pickles, all stuffed into a hard sub roll that is grill-pressed panini style. This gives the outer layer a satisfying crunch, while the inside turns gooey soft with cheesy comfort. Some might say the quintessentially Floridian Cubano is nothing but a glorified ham sandwich but, I ask, with a sweet café con leche on the side, what greater glory is there?
